Visual design for the worlds oldest outdoor museum Skansen

Client / Skansen

About the project

Together with the design agency Antrop I was part of designing the new Skansen.se. We started out having a design studio with the team from Skansen to establish what they wanted to keep from the slightly outdated (and not very digital) visual identity, finding the tone of voice and as well as the tone of the design. It’s a classic museum with a lot of history, but we didn’t want it to feel old. It should be easy to find the different activities going on around the museum as well as finding relevant information when planning a visit. And of course inspire with the deep knowledge and love for the historical buildings and animals that exists in Skansen. We established regular client meetings to make sure that Skansen could follow our design progress on a weekly basis and have short feedback loops.

The colors were slightly updated to make sure the contrasts were according to the accessibility standards WCAG and choose to a new font called Mulish in order for it to be more cost efficiant as it is a state owned museum.

It was designed late 2021/early 2022 and launched a year later.
